Executive & Personal Development Coaching

What is coaching?

Coaching is a structured partnership designed to help individuals expand their thinking, clarify goals, and take meaningful action toward the next stage of their professional or personal life.

As defined by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching is:

"Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential."

Coaching is not advising, mentoring, consulting, or therapy. Instead of telling you what to do, coaching helps you develop deeper insight, stronger decision-making, and a clearer direction forward.

In coaching, the client is considered the expert on their own life. The role of the coach is to provide the structure, inquiry, and accountability that helps uncover the best path forward.

My coaching philosophy

I am an ICF-certified professional coach, which means my coaching process follows the International Coach Federation’s standards and ethical guidelines.

My approach combines strategic inquiry, reflective dialogue, and structured thinking processes designed to help clients generate their own insights and solutions.

I often describe my role simply:

You choose the direction.
You are the expert in your life.
My role is to guide the process.

Through thoughtful questioning and reflection, clients gain clarity, challenge limiting assumptions, and design new strategies for action.

Evidence-based coaching

My work follows what is known as the reflective science-based practitioner model, which integrates research from multiple fields of psychology and human development.

These frameworks may include insights from:

• adult learning and development
• cognitive behavioral approaches
• humanistic psychology
• leadership and organizational development
• developmental frameworks such as Spiral Dynamics

These perspectives help create a coaching process that is both structured and adaptive to each client’s situation.

What coaching can help with

Clients typically come to coaching when they feel it is time for a transition, expansion, or new direction in their life or career.

Coaching may help with areas such as:

• leadership development and executive decision-making
• improving communication and relationships
• navigating major career transitions
• building or scaling a new business
• developing a clearer personal vision
• moving through personal crises into a new chapter
• strengthening confidence and personal agency

The goal of coaching is to help clients design a clear strategy for forward movement, supported by reflection, insight, and action.

Coaching vs therapy

Coaching focuses primarily on the present and future, helping clients design goals and move toward desired outcomes.

Therapy or counseling often focuses more on processing past experiences or psychological healing.

Coaching assumes that the client is ready to focus on growth, decision-making, and action, while therapy may run in parallel if deeper clinical support is needed.

Coaching vs mentoring or teaching

Mentoring and teaching involve sharing knowledge, experience, or advice.

Coaching takes a different approach.

Rather than providing answers, coaching helps clients discover their own insights and solutions, which tends to produce deeper learning and stronger long-term change.

This process is often rooted in Socratic inquiry, where thoughtful questions help reveal new perspectives and possibilities.

Hypnotherapy coaching

In some sessions, I integrate short hypnosis or visualization exercises to help reinforce new thinking patterns and internal alignment with a client’s goals.

These techniques help clients:

• strengthen focus and confidence
• mentally rehearse important decisions or conversations
• reinforce new beliefs and behavioral patterns

This integration can accelerate insight and deepen the coaching process.

How many coaching sessions are needed?

Coaching is typically structured as a minimum three-month engagement, allowing enough time to explore goals, implement changes, and track progress.

Sessions may take place weekly or bi-weekly depending on the client's needs.

Some clients continue longer-term coaching as they navigate new stages of leadership, business, or personal development.

Sessions

Coaching sessions are available online via Zoom, as well as occasionally in person in Rome or New York City, depending on my travel schedule.
